Treasury to withdraw proposed estate tax rules
The Treasury Department announced on Wednesday that it is planning to withdraw estate-tax rules proposed by the Obama administration that were widely opposed by GOP lawmakers and business groups.
The department in a report called the rules’ approach “unworkable.”
President Trump ordered the report in April, instructing the Treasury Department to examine tax regulations issued on or after Jan. 1, 2016. In July, Treasury identified eight rules that it found to have an undue burden on taxpayers or add excessive complexity to tax laws.

AARP urges House to reject Medicare budget cuts
The AARP is calling on the House to reject potential cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and food stamps in the current budget resolution.
In a letter sent to lawmakers Wednesday, AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins said the proposals in the budget that could result in cuts to Medicare, or change it to a defined contribution model, should be rejected.
“We urge you not to include attempts to cut Medicare benefits or increase beneficiary costs in the upcoming budget proposal,” the letter said.

EPA to propose ending Obama-era Clean Power Plan: report
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is ready to repeal the centerpiece regulations former President Obama instituted to fight climate change, according to a department document obtained by Reuters.
Reuters reports that the document was distributed to the agency’s Regulatory Steering Committee, and that it proposes to repeal Obama’s Clean Power Plan.
President Trump has already announced he would pull the United States out of the Paris climate agreement, and he launched a review of the Obama plan in March. The Clean Power Plan was the main way Obama had hoped to meet U.S. obligations to reduce climate emissions under the Paris deal.
