16.4M people gained health coverage since 2013
New data show that 16.4 million people gained health insurance since ObamaCare’s main coverage provisions went into effect in 2013. The survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finds that the uninsured rate is near a record low, at 8.9 percent, just slightly higher than the 8.6 percent record in the first quarter of this year. In 2013, it was 14.4 percent. Still, the survey finds that the sharp drop in the uninsured rate since ObamaCare began appears to be leveling off. The uninsured rate fell just 0.2 percentage points since last year. That slowdown comes as growth in sign-ups for coverage on ObamaCare’s marketplaces is also falling. The administration hopes to add about one million people for next year in the sign-up period that began Tuesday, from 12.7 million to 13.8 million.
